About Us

fire-lec is a comprehensive service that lifts the burden off companies for providing the written Fire Safety Risk Assessments that are now required by the fire regulations for commercial premises and common parts of residential properties in England and Wales.

fire-lec comes from the gas-elec group which also includes the founding company gas-elec Safety Systems (pioneers of combined safety inspection services in the UK); One Call Plus home maintenance and 24/7 emergency service, and the g-lec Skills Academy with award winning industry training.

gas-elec offers a trusted and reliable service delivered by over 120 regionally located safety inspectors, uniquely qualified to carry out a combination of safety inspections, currently in over 100,000 properties a year.

Founded in 1996 and now the leader in its field, gas-elec started out within the residential lettings sector, piloting combined gas and electrical safety inspections at a time when the sector considered - erroneously - that only gas inspections were legislated for. It was founder John Davidson's visionary realisation that the gas and electrical safety regulations of the 1990s had created an opportunity for a new service for the lettings market, in the form of combined inspections by one multi-skilled engineer.

John Davidson is passionate about safety and sees fire-lec as an integral part of the group's commitment to safety both in the home and in the workplace. "In 2005 the cost of business fires averaged over £2 million every day. 82% of businesses do not survive a major fire – that's a staggering figure. The new fire legislation aims to help drive down these figures, and a good Fire Safety Risk Assessment plan such as fire-lec will help prevent businesses literally going up in smoke."

gas-elec is registered with ELECSA as a competent firm under Part P of the building regulations, which was introduced in England & Wales in January 2005 to govern electrical safety in the home. It is an ISO 9001 registered company, with CORGI and NICEIC accreditations.
